Texas Company May Soon Be Permitted to Dispense Marijuana Oil

February 23 could be a big day for the medical marijuana industry in Texas. The Department of Public Safety may be able to begin accepting applications for business licenses to dispense CBD/low-THC oil. The Compassionate Use Act may be approved in its first town – Gunter.

Aquiflow purchased an old cotton gin with intentions of producing the oil there, according to DFW CBS News. The facility will be required to have 24-hour security. The Mayor, Larry Peters is hoping that the revenue from medical marijuana oil sales will help buy the town a new fire truck.

Mayor Pro Tem Peters said, “If it’s legal, I’m all for it. If this puts us on the map, so what? The biggest thing is it’s gonna help people.”

Advocates, however, are frustrated that the state won’t expand the medical conditions in the Compassionate Use Act and allow for more forms of medical marijuana to be used. Lawmakers were worried about the products getting into the hands of those it shouldn’t.

One advocate mom said, “People who want to use it recreationally already are. The only people who are not getting access is those of us who are trying to abide by the law.”
