Medical Marijuana Business Event in El Paso This Month

Marijuana Texas

The Medcan Foundation is holding a medical marijuana seminar in El Paso to help educate the community and medical staff about medical marijuana. The seminar will be business-based, and provide information that will help interested parties enter the industry.

The medical marijuana program in Texas is expected to be up and running in early 2017, El Paso Inc. reports. The downside to the medical marijuana program in Texas is that it is open only to those suffering from intractable epilepsy. Furthermore, epileptic patients must have failed to receive relief from at least two other forms of treatment before medical marijuana can be recommended.

Medcan director of operations, Henry Levinski said, “Our course is designed for everybody – dispensaries, cultivators, processors, patients, and doctors.”

Levinski also said, “If you want to grow it, we’ll teach you how. If you’re a patient and wonder what it’s good for, we tell you the uses of the medication. If you want to have a dispensary, we actually have someone that builds them and can talk about what it takes to do it. But it’s more than putting in a storefront. You have to go to the city to get your permit.”

Texas does not permit smokable forms of marijuana, only oils, edibles, and creams containing low THC percentages. Some agree that this is the right approach – baby steps. The support comes from the ability to better control how the program expands.

The cost of attending the seminar is $300. It will be held at the Camino Real Hotel on August 6 and 7.
