Astonishing Results When Texas Parents Treat Autistic Daughter with Marijuana

Kara Zartler

Kara Zartler, a 17-year old girl in Texas suffers from severe autism. She self-injures – by punching and slapping herself –  in uncontrollable fits. Her parents are forced to break the law in order to treat their daughter with the only substance that helps: medical marijuana.

Kara’s condition has opened up a new discussion in Texas about legalizing medical marijuana, according to My San Antonio. Kara Zartler’s parents have been giving her vaporized marijuana for the last three years, and it stops her episodes of self-harm.

Kara’s father, Mark Zartler, said, “I live in Texas and illegally treat my daughter (Kara) with cannabis. We are telling our story in an effort to change Texas law.”

Kara takes a total of eight prescriptions daily. Some of her medications include Abilify, Prozac and Risperidone. The introduction of marijuana allowed the Zartlers to reduce the number of doses that Kara takes of her prescriptions.

Zartler said, “Texans, right now the medical cannabis bill (SB269) is languishing. We need a hearing to make our case to our legislators and the public. There’s more medical uses than people realize. Ask yourself what you would do in my situation.”

The video below shows Kara amidst a self-injuring episode. Her father administers marijuana vapor using a mask for her to breathe in. You’ll notice that, within just a few minutes Kara’s symptoms decreased and her demeanor changed where she appeared relieved and happy. The symptoms stopped in just three minutes, proving that marijuana can work for people suffering with varying degrees of autism.
