Texans Need and Deserve Access to Medical Marijuana

Texas MMJ

When veteran Major David Bass returned from service he was diagnosed with PTSD. He, and thousands of other veterans, are breaking the law by self-medicating with marijuana.

Major Bass was given a regimen of opium-based painkillers and psychotropic drugs, according to Daily Reckoning. Those drugs had bad side effects. The veteran dealt with unintentional addiction problems because of the medications he was prescribed.

He said, “I felt like a zombie. I had flat emotions, experienced suicidal ideation. I got addicted to hydrocodone. It got to where I couldn’t do without taking it every day…”

Some of the side effects he experienced included migraines and insomnia. He also experienced increased anxiety. He went through this for an entire year, before it started effecting his health.

He said, “[My doctors] told me that I needed to take these drugs for at least two more years before we even talked about not using them anymore.”

He also said, “I became very discouraged. One day, I was so discouraged that I flushed the drugs down the toilet…I researched medical cannabis and discovered that thousands of veterans testify that cannabis is effective for chronic pain and PTSD.”

Once he tried marijuana, he found that it was a better option for him.

“Cannabis wasn’t a gateway drug for me. It was an exit drug.”

Operation Trapped supports Senate Bill 269 that would create a medical marijuana program. Operation Trapped is a group of 1,400 veterans that want medical marijuana.
