Dallas to Vote on Bill That Would Reduce Marijuana Possession Penalty

Dallas Dispensary

Dallas County may become the next region in Texas to reduce penalties for marijuana possession. New legislation proposed would allow for a civil fine instead of arrest for those in possession of 4-ounces or less of marijuana.

The legislation would help the county’s law enforcement to increase response times to emergencies, according to CBS DFW. A court appearance would still be required, but offenders would be given a fine instead of jail time. Offenders at least 17-years of age or older would get just a ticket.

A thumbprint and valid ID would be required for offenders in possession of 4-ounces or less to receive just a ticket.

The vote on this proposed legislation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12.
