Texas’ Medical Marijuana Program Helping Less Than 600 People

Cannabis

Texas’ highly restrictive medical marijuana program is only benefitting a minimal number of patients. It’s reported that less than 600 people in the state are able to access the medicine. There are only 45 doctors in the entire state that have registered to prescribe CBD.

The approved medicine has been available for almost a year, according to NBCDFW 5 News. Several state lawmakers are trying to pass legislation to increase the number of qualifying conditions. Cancer is one condition being pushed for.

Three companies are producing the low-THC medication. Only two are actually operational and one has reported a loss. The three companies are located in Central Texas.

The upcoming legislative session will be vital for passing medical marijuana expansion proposals.
