Texas Preparing to License Marijuana Growers and Dispensaries

TX Medical Marijuana

Texas approved the use of marijuana oil products for the treatment of intractable epilepsy and is in the preparatory stages of implementing the new program. Texans will only be allowed low-THC/CBD oil.

Patients will not be able to grow their own medication, only licensed growers may do so.

There is not a tracking system in place in Texas as physicians have to register to prescribe the medicine and dispensaries have to be licensed by the Department of Public Safety, according to My San Antonio. Prescribing physicians will have to include personal information and the dosage amount with the Compassionate Use Registry.

Some of the most important rules for CBD oil use in Texas are:

  • There is no price regulation in place
  • No age limit is in place to participate in the Compassionate Use program
  • At least 3 dispensaries must be licensed by September 1, 2017, with no dispensary number limit in place

It will still be about one year before the laws surrounding marijuana oil extracts will be fully implemented. The Department of Public Safety is awaiting the development of framework for the Compassionate Use Program to complete the list of physician and dispensary registry from the Texas Department of Information Resources.
